EcoFit Festac Initiative

Turning Waste into Value for Cleaner Communities

EcoFit Festac Initiative is a community-driven environmental sustainability initiative of the Festac Town Residents Association (FTRA), created to promote environmental responsibility, recycling, community participation, cleaner surroundings and sustainable living across Festac.

EcoFit brings residents, schools, businesses, corporate organisations, recycling partners and community stakeholders together to develop practical solutions to environmental challenges within our communities.

THE CHALLENGE

Why EcoFit Is Needed

Festac faces interconnected environmental challenges that require more than periodic clean-up exercises. EcoFit is designed around continuous participation, environmental awareness and practical systems that encourage residents to take ownership of their environment.

01
Poor sanitation
02
Indiscriminate littering
03
Stagnant wastewater
04
Blocked drainage systems
05
Poor waste-separation practices
06
Low environmental awareness
07
Limited community participation in environmental management
WHAT ECOFIT IS BUILDING

A practical recycling and environmental improvement system

Within the next six months, EcoFit is developing a community-driven environmental sustainability system in selected zones of Community One, Festac Town.

The initiative encourages residents to separate and recover recyclable plastic waste through designated collection points.

The recovered plastics will be aggregated and channelled through appropriate recycling arrangements, with the value generated, subject to agreed operational and revenue-sharing arrangements, supporting:

  • ✓Zone-level environmental improvement
  • ✓Cleaning
  • ✓Beautification
  • ✓Resident incentives
  • ✓Environmental education
  • ✓Local environmental job opportunities

4 STEP 4

Recycling

Collected materials are transferred through agreed arrangements with appropriate recycling or waste-management partners.

5 STEP 5

Value Is Created

Recovered recyclable materials generate economic value based on material type, quantity and the agreed valuation structure.

6 STEP 6

RECYCLE FOR YOUR ZONE

Your Plastic. Your Reward. Your Zone.

EcoFit recognises that each zone has its own environmental needs. The model is designed to create a direct connection between resident participation, recyclable waste recovery and environmental improvement within participating zones.

Zone-level accountability Where applicable, materials collected from individual zones will be recorded and accounted for so environmental value can contribute to improvements within those zones, subject to the agreed programme structure. See the impact indicators
